What is the Coros ADA Community Grants program?
Since the early 1990’s, ADA-Indiana has provided funding to local community organizations to conduct projects related to the implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). One of the guiding principles behind the Grants Program is that local organizations know best the needs of their own community.
Do have some examples of the projects you have funded in the past?
Please feel free to look at ADA-Indiana's "Past Grant Recipients" webpage.
Can I use a Coros ADA Community Grant to fix or add some type of physical accessibility feature, such as a ramp, fix a bathroom space, or something like that?
No. The Coros ADA Community Grants can NOT be used for any type of building modification or to buy of any type of equipment.
Who is Keith Coros?
In August of 2008, ADA-Indiana re-named the Community ADA Grants program to pay tribute to the life and memory of Keith Coros. Keith was an ADA-Indiana member from 2005 until his passing in July 2008. He was involved in the Independent Living movement in Indiana, as well as doing advocacy work in his local community.
What is "People First Language?"
In the Request for Proposals, we ask that applicants use "People First" language in "all proposals, publications, reports, and presentations to emphasize positive images of people with disabilities as people first." The Disability is Natural website has a resource page that might be helpful: https://www.disabilityisnatural.com/pfl-articles.html
Where can I find information about COVID-19 safety precautions for community events?
We would recommend you contact your local public health department for information about local safety precautions and restrictions. The State of Indiana's has information about state guidelines available on their website (see "Public Resources": https://www.coronavirus.in.gov/2400.htm. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has information available in their "Community, Work, and School" section: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/index.html.
When is the next Grant period?
Our annual grant Request for Proposals has historically coincided with the Indiana Conference on Disability, hosted by the Indiana Governor's Council for People with Disabilities. Even though the Conference is now biennial, we have elected to keep the same schedule. Our Request for Proposals is usually released in early December with a close date in the 3rd week of January. Please check back for details then or ask to be added to our distribution list. Our e-mail address is: adainfo@indiana.edu.
