• Accessible Parking, What Does that Mean? (4/21/2020) From Great Lakes ADA Center:Accessible parking continues to be an area of confusion for people with disabilities and businesses. How many spaces must be accessible? Where should the accessible spaces be located? Who qualifies to park in accessible spaces? Who enforces parking laws? Join this session as we explore the complex issues of location, type, size, number and how all of this is enforced. The session will include the requirements for accessible parking in the 2010 ADA standards for accessible design. 
  
  
• Accessible Parking and Passenger Loading Zones - Advanced (8/4/2016) From Great Lakes ADA Center:This session will provide an in-depth review of requirements in the ADA and ABA Accessibility Standards for parking spaces and passenger loading zones. Topics to be addressed include the minimum number required, location, van spaces, vertical clearances, alterations, signage, valet parking and more.
  
  
• Using the ADA and ABA Standards Series: Chapter 5: General Site and Building Elements (6/4/2020) From Great Lakes ADA Center:This session will review scoping and technical provisions for general site and building elements in the ADA and ABA Accessibility Standards (Chapter 5). These requirements ensure access to site arrival facilities and pedestrian routes located on a site. Chapter 5 addresses parking spaces, passenger loading zones, stairways, and handrails. Presenters will address common sources of confusion and frequently asked questions about these provisions.

• Indiana has a state law on accessible parking: Indiana Code 5-16-9 Chapter 9. Parking Facilities for Persons with Physical Disabilities (to look up the Indiana code, go to http://iga.in.gov/legislative/laws/current/ic/).
  
  There are differences between the parking requirements in 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design and the Indiana requirements for accessible parking. Following the requirements in the ADA Standards for parking and adhering to the blue color requirements in the Indiana Code, will insure you are in compliance with both federal and state requirements.
  
  
• The ADA Standards for Accessible Design does not have any requirements for the color of the paint to identify accessible parking but Indiana code requires the striping paint to be blue, see IC 5-16-9-4 (a)(6))"An accessible parking space and an access aisle must be designated with blue lines."
  
  
• The use (or misuse) of accessible parking spaces is not enforced by the U.S. Department of Justice, rather it is left to state and local governments to police and enforce.
